Documentary Site has been around in some form or another for about 12 years now. Until recently, it consisted of about 100 pages with some dated information about documentaries, but tracking stats showed me that hardly anyone looked at those pages. So, I wiped the site and started it over with this blog. I will repost some pages from the other site at a later date.
I am a scholar of the documentary form, and this blog represents my attempts at grappling some of the deeper issues that arise in both popular media and academic discourses. I also consider myself a huge fan of the form and often will watch a documentary over a fiction film, given the option.
For what it’s worth, I hold a Ph.D. in mass communications and I teach mass communications at a university in Boston. I am hoping to learn more about documentary production and programming in addition to teaching while I am here.
Standard disclaimer: My views here in no way reflect or are endorsed by my institution. They are mine and mine alone.
The blog is updated when a good subject arises. The twitter account, @documentarysite, is updated more regularly. Comments are screened for spam and relevance. Those that contribute to the conversation will appear eventually; those that advertise related and non-related stuff will experience the wrath of the delete key.
